Citizen's Guide to Lobbying State Government in New York

Welcome to the Commission's Citizen's Guide for Lobbying New York State Government. This feature of our web site provides you, the public, with the internet communication tools that lobbyists today use to track legislation and contact representatives in New York State government. With a click of a button, you can find out how a bill becomes a law, search for legislation by keyword or bill number, or identify and contact your State Representatives. This guide also includes handy tips for communicating with state legislators.

The legislative declaration contained in the opening paragraph of the Lobbying Act states "the operation of responsible democratic government requires that the fullest opportunity be afforded to the people to petition their government for the redress of grievances and to express freely to appropriate officials their opinions on legislation and governmental operations..." With this in mind, we hope that this guide brings us closer to the fulfillment of this legislative intent by allowing you to more actively interact with your State Representatives as well as improve government's accessibility to the average citizen. If you have any comments or suggestions on how to improve this feature, please e-mail us at CPI@nyintegrity.org.
